Lexus has unveiled the third-generation 2024 GX, signaling a significant upgrade to its popular SUV model. This new iteration replaces the previous version, which made its debut back in 2010. The 2024 GX boasts a more chiseled and rugged appearance, complemented by modern technology. Set to hit the market in early 2024, pricing details have yet to be announced.

Powerful Performance
Built on the body-on-frame GA-F platform, shared with the LX 600, the 2024 GX exhibits robust capabilities. Equipped with a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear setup, it delivers a smooth and controlled ride. The addition of electronic power steering enhances both on- and off-road steering feel. An optional Adaptive Variable Suspension with active dampers provides an even more refined driving experience. At launch, the GX 550 variant takes the spotlight, featuring a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine producing 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, it enables a maximum towing capacity of up to 8,000 pounds.

Off-Road Prowess
The 2024 GX comes standard with full-time four-wheel drive and a lockable Torsen limited-slip center differential. Its electronically controlled transfer case allows for swift shifting between 4WD-High and 4WD-Low modes. Notably, the Overtrail grades offer additional off-road enhancements, including a locking rear differential. While a hybrid powertrain option is on the horizon, no specific release date has been provided yet.
Bold and Refined Design
With a complete redesign, the 2024 GX showcases a strikingly different aesthetic compared to its predecessor. Its angular body features bold lines and contours, while the iconic Lexus spindle grille is integrated seamlessly into the front fascia. The upright windshield enhances the vehicle’s commanding presence, and the rear features a power hatchback with a separate opening glass and a convenient kick sensor for automatic operation.
Trim Levels and Options
The 2024 GX will be available in six trim levels: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail, and Overtrail+. The Overtrail trims are specifically tailored for off-road enthusiasts, featuring black fender accents and an aluminum skid plate. These variants ride on 18-inch wheels with 33-inch tires and offer advanced off-road features such as crawl control, downhill assist control, and a 3D multi-terrain monitor. The Overtrail+ model boasts unique seats with a massage function and a power-extending cushion. Lexus confirms that the Overtrail models will be released alongside the other trim levels.
Luxurious Interior
While the exterior exudes ruggedness, the cabin of the 2024 GX emphasizes luxury and comfort. Notable upgrades include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a larger 14.0-inch infotainment display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Temperature and audio volume can be adjusted using dedicated dials, and buttons for controlling the transfer case and differentials are conveniently located on the center console. The GX offers two seating configurations: a six-passenger layout with captain’s chairs in the second row or a seven-person layout with a bench seat. The front seats are heated and ventilated, with optional heating available for the second row.

The 2024 Lexus GX represents a significant leap forward for the SUV, combining rugged aesthetics, powerful performance, and enhanced off-road capabilities. With its cutting-edge technology, luxurious interior, and range of trim levels, the GX is set to provide an exciting and comfortable driving experience for adventurers and luxury enthusiasts alike.
