In France, new law approved by the Senate would compel solar panels to cover all parking lots. The new regulations are a part of French President Emmanuel Macron’s extensive plan to invest extensively in renewable energy sources, which aims to increase the nation’s production of solar power by tenfold and that of land-based wind farms by twofold.

Smaller parking lots with 80 to 400 spaces will have until July 1, 2023, to abide by the new regulations. With more than 400 spaces, parking lots have a lower time restriction.
Within three years from this date, they must adhere to the new regulations, and solar panels must cover at least half of the parking area.
The government claims that this strategy, which focuses primarily on large parking lots near malls and train stations, has the potential to produce up to 11 gigawatts, or the electricity of ten nuclear reactors, enough to power millions of households.
